Austrian Succession Test #3: New and Improved
After four years, War of Austrian Succession is nearing completion! Please come help test it so that I can perfect the balance!
It would be very helpful if we could have no NMRs for the first few phases especially. http://lab.diplomail.ru/board.php?gameID=64

Kaner406, what about Mongolian Empire variant?

Sounds great! So what do you need to start?

I'm certainly fine if you want to take on this variant and run with it.
Flame - Oli has fixed the retreating clipper problem so it only will move one place not two. He says:

If you look up the movement-otions in \javascript\orders\phaseRetreats.js
There is on line 49: this.toTerrChoices = this.Unit.getMovableTerritories() ...
If you check this function in: \javascript\boardmodel.js
Line: 120: .select(this.canCrossBorder,this)
And the "canCrossBorder"-funtion is defined right above this one (line 106)
I simply need to delete the fleet-option completely and the "Army"-check.
In the FoW-variants I do something similar to hide units in the fog.

Uh, well at the moment, I can't edit the code, so I would need authorisation or whatever to do that?
Fixing the ship build in Lhasa is simple, but I will need to be allowed to edit its territory type, which I believe is in the code

Maybe I'm being thick, and just haven't realised I can already edit the code though? I haven't done any variant development for a few years now xD

Tristan, access granted.
Ambassador thank you. Do ou know what is the update for Pirates 1.0.9?
Tristan (1000 D)

Think I fixed the issues of the Bulgars-Bashkir border and the fleet in Lhasar

Made it so an army can move Chola-Bengal, but wondering if the map needs tweaking to make it clearer :/
Hi Flame - sorry no idea, best you check with Oli. I assume he's banking up changes so each new variant (or change to existing variant) is released every two weeks. That tends to be his style.

I've sorted out the minor issues, but can't see anything that should stop the 'build anywhere' function from working :/

Try a game to check if it's still not working?

There's a map from 2003 which I named
"Marco Polo Diplomacy - Mongol Succession 1260 AD"

https://web.archive.org/web/20041013200804/http://www.bestway.com.br/~mfrest/MarcoPolo.gif

(I had this variant in realpolitik files by then, today I don't even have the map anymore - though I found this thank to Wayback Machine!)

All 6 are Mongol powers!

Scenario is Mongol Empire as traveled by Marco Polo. :) It starts by 1260, at the death of Mongke Khan, before the rise of Qubilai (Kublai) as the
new Great Khan, who by the time was "just" the conqueror of China.

The 6 Khanates are, from west to east:
--> Blue Horde (south Russia - the ones who assaulted Europe)
--> Ilkhanate (Persia - the ones who terrorized the Muslim world)
--> White Horde (Cazakhstan - later merged with the Blue Horde to form the Golden Horde)
--> Chagatay (Turksthan, Silk Road - the core of the Empire)
--> Karakorum (Mongolia, Manchuria - Arik-Boke's part of the Great Khanate at the Civil War)
--> Yuan (China - Kubilai's part of the Great Khanate at the Civil War, still under conquest, thus before Kubilai's founding of the Yuan Dynasty).

Map notes:
- Fleets start in Sarai, Baghdad, Guangzhou and Khanbalik.
- Sarai, Byzantine Empire and Mamluk Empire are canals (respectively, between Caspian and Black, Black and Mediterranean, Mediterranean and Red Sea).
- Tiflis, Rum and Delhi have 2 coasts.
- The lakes Aral, Balkhash and Baikal are impassable.

The variant needs a bit of adjusts to become fully playable, though:

- It should be "build anywhere". At first I thought that "chaos builds" would not be appropriate for a game where the Powers were not nomadic horsemen anymore. If the Mongol Khanates were very civilized in many senses, then they _really_ had home bases. If the variant was about the RISE of the mongols, ok, but it's about them when they were already established as Empire (starting to crumble though). I was reading on Mongols for a while that time, take a peek at the Cambridge History of China, Volume 6. :-)

- The province south of Bad (Badakhshan?) is missing its abbreviation, that must be Ghazni.

- All of Africa is one province? This was my latest change. There was Etyopia to the south, but I thought it was not necessay, and allowing connection between the
Mamluk Empire and the IOndian Ocena would allow more flexibility.

- The expansion prospects for Karakorum don't look as good as those of the other Powers. A power having overly good prospects is not a problem - the others must realise this and stop them before they get too far ahead. A power with overly poor prospects is a problem, because they will always be an easy source of supply centres to their neighbours early on in the game.

Imperium without the river rule.
I would like we playtested this plain option for that variant: the Imperium map without any river rule.

Better call in players who have played the river rule, to feel the difference. If the players approve the change, we could dare proposing it for permanent change in vdip.

As far as I understand Oliver's full instruction about variant creation is lost. So we are now to find all the information at different interbet resource and make up a new full instruction in the end.

Site Glitch for Mobile
Today when I tried to log onto this site on my smartphone using 3G, I received this message: "Error Triggered: Column 'ip' cannot be null." It was fairly annoying as it caused me to NMR in one of our test games.

However, I think it might be fixable, because the same glitch doesn't appear on vDiplomacy.com, only here. Do you know what the problem is, Flame?
